Please drop in and visit all three of our churches this Sunday afternoon, as Portland, St Meddan’s and Troon Old Parish Churches each open for Doors Open Days Ayrshire.
As our three congregations unite to form the new Troon Church of Scotland, there will be changes in our use of church buildings, including the closure of the main Troon Old Parish Church sanctuary on Ayr Street, opposite Troon Town Hall.
This year’s Doors Open Day theme of ‘Living Heritage’ is therefore particularly apt for us here in Troon:
Living Heritage is passed down from generation to generation, and constantly reshaped by communities and groups in response to their environment and today’s needs.
Doors Open Day is an ideal time for the whole community to explore how use of the three church buildings will change and evolve. Spend a little while in each of these beautiful sanctuaries and reflect on what we have inherited from previous generations, and on the heritage we want to leave for future generations.
To stimulate discussion, we have produced a short presentation that summarises the plan, and the opportunities and concerns that arise…
There will be a chance on Sunday afternoon to speak to the stewards, and to jot down your thoughts to contribute to the debate.
